In the measure of the grace given to me, I, as a wise master-builder, have put the base in position, and another goes on building on it. But let every man take care what he puts on it. For there is no other base for the building but that which has been put down, which is Jesus Christ. But on the base a man may put gold, silver, stones of great price, wood, dry grass, cut stems;
Every man's work will be made clear in that day, because it will be tested by fire; and the fire itself will make clear the quality of every man's work. If any man's work comes through the test, he will have a reward. If the fire puts an end to any man's work, it will be his loss: but he will get salvation himself, though as by fire. Do you not see that you are God's holy house, and that the Spirit of God has his place in you? If anyone makes the house of God unclean, God will put an end to him; for the house of God is holy, and you are his house. Let no man have a false idea. If any man seems to himself to be wise among you, let him become foolish, so that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolish before God. As it is said in the holy Writings, He who takes the wise in their secret designs:
And again, The Lord has knowledge of the reasonings of the wise, that they are nothing.
Božíť jsme zajisté pomocníci, Boží rolí, Boží vzdělání jste. Já podle milosti Boží mně dané, jako moudrý stavitel, základ jsem založil, jiný pak na něm staví. Ale jeden každý viz, jak na něm staví. Nebo základu jiného žádný položiti nemůž, mimo ten, kterýž položen jest, jenž jest Ježíš Kristus. Staví-liť pak kdo na ten základ zlato, stříbro, kamení drahé, dříví, seno, strniště, Jednohoť každého dílo zjeveno bude. Den zajisté to všecko okáže; nebo v ohni zjeví se, a jednoho každého dílo, jaké by bylo, oheň zprubuje. Zůstane-liť čí dílo, kteréž na něm stavěl, vezme odplatu.
Pakliť čí dílo shoří, tenť vezme škodu, ale sám spasen bude, avšak tak jako skrze oheň. Zdaliž nevíte, že chrám Boží jste, a Duch Boží v vás přebývá?
Jestližeť kdo chrámu Božího poskvrňuje, tohoť zatratí Bůh; nebo chrám Boží svatý jest, jenž jste vy. Žádný sám sebe nesvoď. Zdá-li se komu z vás, že jest moudrý na tomto světě, budiž bláznem, aby byl učiněn moudrým. Moudrost zajisté světa tohoto bláznovství jest u Boha. Nebo psáno jest: Kterýž zlapá moudré v chytrosti jejich.
A opět: Znáť Pán přemyšlování moudrých, že jsou marná.

Tanrı'nın bana lütfettiği görev uyarınca bilge bir mimar gibi temel attım, başkaları da bu temel üzerine inşa ediyor. Herkes nasıl inşa ettiğine dikkat etsin. Çünkü hiç kimse atılan temelden, yani İsa Mesih'ten başka bir temel atamaz. Bu temel üzerine kimi altın, gümüş ya da değerli taşlarla, kimi de tahta, ot ya da kamışla inşa edecek. Herkesin yaptığı iş belli olacak, yargı günü ortaya çıkacak. Herkesin işi ateşle açığa vurulacak. Ateş her işin niteliğini sınayacak. Bir kimsenin inşa ettikleri ateşe dayanırsa, o kimse ödülünü alacak. Yaptıkları yanarsa, zarar edecek. Kendisi kurtulacak, ama ateşten geçmiş gibi olacaktır. Tanrı'nın tapınağı olduğunuzu, Tanrı'nın Ruhu'nun sizde yaşadığını bilmiyor musunuz? Kim Tanrı'nın tapınağını yıkarsa, Tanrı da onu yıkacak. Çünkü Tanrı'nın tapınağı kutsaldır ve o tapınak sizsiniz. Kimse kendini aldatmasın. Aranızdan biri bu çağın ölçülerine göre kendini bilge sanıyorsa, bilge olmak için "akılsız" olsun! Çünkü bu dünyanın bilgeliği Tanrı'nın gözünde akılsızlıktır. Yazılmış olduğu gibi, "O, bilgeleri kurnazlıklarında yakalar." Yine, "Rab bilgelerin düşüncelerinin boş olduğunu bilir" diye yazılmıştır.
